Frozen Squid Tubes (Calamari)
Squid are fascinating creatures. Though they don’t look it, squid are classed as molluscs like snails, clams and mussels.
They are voracious ocean predators that capture their prey by ensnaring it in two long tentacles which they shoot out when a tasty morsel is nearby.
Squid swim backwards, are faster than any other ocean invertebrate and can change colour to camouflage themselves or signal to a prospective mate.
Their bright, white flesh also happens to be extremely tasty.
How to Cook
Squid is a versatile ingredient that can be fried, chargrilled, or added to paellas and seafood stews.
But it can easily go from soft and delicious to rubbery and unpleasant so take extra care not to overdo it.
Our frozen squid tubes are perfect for slicing, coating in a light batter and frying quickly in oil to create classic calamari, which is best enjoyed with a squeeze of lemon and garlic mayo in the sun.
Squid tubes are also delicious when stuffed with intensely flavoured Spanish rice and baked for about 20 minutes.
